Butternut Squash- oh how I hate you...

Well, not really. But, my gosh has anyone ever tried to cut a butternut squash? It's so very tough, and fiddly...but it does go a VERY long way....(yawn).

So here is my weekly shop.

All this for £14.86

This week didn't quite go to plan. I headed off back 'up north' for mothers day, so had the pleasure of some home cooked good grub from my excellent 'foodie' parents. (And no, that's not fish, chips and gravy). So unfortunately we have had quite a lot of food leftover to take us into next week.

Check out our most BORING week to date.

Sunday - Homemade Butternut Squash Soup

Monday - Vegetable Jalfrezi Curry (with Butternut Squash)

We made the sauce using a large mixture of herbs from the cupboard and our lovely homemade chicken stock that we've had in the freezer for a while mmmmmm...

Tuesday - I went out for a delicious Steak at Cafe Rouge (of all places) what a treat!

Wednesday - Soup again

And this is not the end of it, we even had more leftover for a batch to go in the freezer.

Thursday - Curry again (with yogurt on top, bought separately)

Friday- OFF TO EAT FOOD THAT DOESN"T HAVE BUTTERNUT SQUASH IN IT yipeee

Look out for next week kids as meals from this week are being carried over to next (how exciting) Artichoke gratin here we come....

Week 2

Welcome to Week 2 of my challenge / experiment. Hasn't it been a fun week? My shop this week totalled at £15.55 with

Blue Cheese. Ciabatta. Brie. Cheddar Cheese. Iceberg Lettuce. Horseradish. Cucumber. Loose Onions. Beef Mince. Smoked Gammon Joint.

A particularly cheesy week, but most definitely yummy yum yum.

Tuck in and see what was on the menu this week.

Sunday - Homemade Blue Cheese Burgers with Horseradish (and side salad)

Monday - Roasted Smoked Gammon in Ginger Beer

Tuesday - Second helping of our Homemade Burgers (and even more delicious than before)

Wednesday - Roast Gammon with carrot and potato mash

Thursday - Homemade 3 cheese and onion pizza

Friday - Cheese and Tomato Stacks (eaten with Cous Cous)

Saturday - I had the girls over for the night. So we
decided on take-out before we took ourselves out. (and some sneaky fudge bought from Borough Market earlier in the day)

Just to add, tomatoes, carrots and broccoli were in last weeks shop, left over for this week. And lunches were once again salads everyday.

ENJOY!

Big Food Shop Week one...let the fun begin

As you can see, i'm 4p over!!! But, it is the first week, so i'm still learning. I'll quickly skim through the items because the receipt is rather hard to read.

Chopped Tomatoes x3. Midget Jems (sneaky treat). Pizza Base mix. 6 Eggs. Broccoli. beansprouts. tomatoes. Iceberg Lettice. Aubergines. Haddock fillets x2 (reduced price!). Smoked Salmon. Mozzarella Balls x2. Soft Cheese. Lemon. 12 Rashes Smoked Bacon.

Some of these ingredients are for the store-cupboard, so may show up again in a few weeks. But on the whole, very pleased with this shop.

Just a quick note, I make salads every day for lunch adding leftovers to iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and usually a nice chunk of cucumber and home-made dressing mmmm...

So, before I bumble on about food, let me apologise for how stingy this shop appears. It may however please you to know that I did not buy THE WHOLE of the Sainsbury's basics range (eeek i promise not every week will be full of basics stuff) and hopefully i'll be able to show you how delicious food can be made with it.

Alas, here's what I made for the week.

Sunday - Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg on Cream Cheese Bagels (not forgetting a squeeze o' lemon)

Monday - Valentines eve...no cooking for me, I had the pleasure of being taken to The Duke Of Cambridge, an outstanding gastropub in Angel, serving up some of the most delicious organic food i've ever tasted. What a treat - definitely one of my favourite eateries in London. I would highly recommend a date night here. http://www.dukeorganic.co.uk/

Tuesday - Classic Spag Bol. Using frozen leftovers from the week before. (You will notice bits and bobs will get frozen for subsequent weeks to come). One with spaghetti, one with veggies...

Wednesday - Baked Aubergines with Tomatoes Mozzarella and Bacon

Thursday - Oh no...a little 'worse for wear' tonight - so unfortunately the cooking went out the window and Bacon Butties magically flew in...

(Only remembered to take a picture of the glorious meal half way through )

Friday - Haddock Stir Fry with Lemon

Saturday - Round 2, ding ding.  Baked Aubergines with Carrot Mash

That's all for now - tuck back in for next week folks. Sneak Preview...Homemade Burgers mmm.
